August 31 marked Tim Cook's last day as CEO of Apple. From September 1, the leadership of the tech giant officially transitions to John Ternus, who previously served as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering.

Before his departure, Cook sent a farewell letter to Apple employees, in which he admitted he would greatly miss his work, but was entrusting the leadership to reliable hands:

“I will miss leading you and being with you every step of the way, though I feel immense comfort entrusting leadership to such a brilliant, wonderful, and capable person as John. Few understand what it takes to create world-changing products the way John does, and I am very excited about his leadership.”

Tim Cook led Apple for 15 years. His successor, John Ternus, previously oversaw the development of devices that generated about 80% of the company's revenue. The new leader has already stated that Apple will continue to place a strong emphasis on design, as it remains the foundation of all the brand's products.
