During a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated the need to end the war in Ukraine. The politicians met in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, where the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit is taking place.
Narendra Modi emphasized that every day of the war harms humanity, and therefore it is necessary to work towards ending hostilities. According to him, India will continue to support peaceful negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
“We need to move from an endless war to its cessation. That is India's message. We need an end to the war, not its continuation,” the Indian Prime Minister stated.
Earlier, at the end of July, Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during a meeting with Putin, also called for freezing the Russian-Ukrainian war and returning to negotiations. However, Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov, in response, stated that, given Kyiv's position, freezing the conflict is impossible. According to him, for Russia, the main condition remains achieving its stated goals.
