In Belarus, they are fighting goldenrod with the help of perennial grasses
Invasive plants continue to spread in Belarus on agricultural lands and private territories. Specialists consider Canadian goldenrod one of the most dangerous species. It quickly occupies new territories, displaces other plants, and hinders their growth, reports news.by.
In the Minsk region, mechanical and chemical methods are used to combat goldenrod. After treatment, infested areas are sown with perennial grasses. Their strong root system prevents goldenrod from re-occupying the territory.
Since the beginning of 2026, more than 70 hectares of land in the region have already had their productivity restored using this method.
As reported by Ekaterina Poleschuk, Chairperson of the Minsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, a plan for combating invasive plants has been developed for the region for 2026. It envisages activities on an area of about 6 thousand hectares.
All land users, regardless of ownership form, are obliged to fight goldenrod. Experts emphasize that timely destruction of the plant helps to curb its further spread.
