The ranking is based on the international HydroLAKES database, which contains information on lakes worldwide. It includes lakes with an area of at least 0.1 sq. km; reservoirs and artificially created bodies of water are not taken into account, writes thinktanks.pro.

As for our neighbors, Russia ranks 2nd in the world. There are 201,240 lakes on its territory. Ukraine ranks 14th with 4,915 lakes. Poland is in 15th place (3,717 lakes), Lithuania – 35th (1,094 lakes), and Latvia – 44th (845 lakes).

At the bottom of the ranking are countries with only one natural lake each. These include the Seychelles, Comoros, Qatar, and Bahrain.
