Russian man shot three people at a shooting range in Montenegro
A native of Perm came to the shooting range as an ordinary visitor, received a weapon, and suddenly opened fire.
A large-scale special operation in Montenegro to neutralize 30-year-old Russian citizen Mikhail Shabunin, who committed a mass shooting at a shooting club, has concluded. The attacker shot himself in a forest 100 km from the scene when he realized he was completely surrounded by special forces.
The tragedy occurred the day before at the "Češka zbrojevka" shooting range near Danilovgrad.
A native of Perm came to the shooting range disguised as an ordinary visitor, received a weapon, and suddenly opened fire.
Three shooting range instructors, aged 20, 24, and 67, died on the spot.
After the murders, Shabunin stole a car belonging to one of the victims and fled. Leaving the car on the outskirts of Podgorica, he took a taxi and traveled about 100 kilometers to Herceg Novi.
Police announced an interception, deploying anti-terrorist forces, special forces, and a military helicopter.
Blockposts were set up on city streets, and local residents were ordered not to leave their homes.
The decisive phase of the operation unfolded around 03:35 AM in the forest. Special forces blocked the fugitive. Shabunin opened fire on the police officers, and then shot himself in the head, according to the police.
The motives for the incident are not yet known.
In connection with the tragedy, September 1 and 2 were declared days of mourning in the country, and the start of the academic year in Danilovgrad was postponed to September 3.
