Pashinyan decided to recall Armenian ambassador from Russia amid a trade war
Pashinyan is dissatisfied with the ambassador's diplomatic work, as he cannot reduce tensions in relations between Yerevan and Moscow.
The Prime Minister of Armenia decided to recall the republic's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russia, Gurgen Arsenyan, knowledgeable sources informed the Armenian newspaper 'Zhoghovurd'.
According to them, Pashinyan is dissatisfied with the ambassador's diplomatic work, as he cannot reduce tensions in relations between Yerevan and Moscow. It is not yet known who will replace Arsenyan, but the decision to recall him is final and not subject to revision, the 'Zhoghovurd' interlocutors emphasized.
Arsenyan was appointed ambassador to Russia in August 2024, replacing Vagarshak Harutyunyan in this post. Before that, he was a member of the republic's parliament from the ruling 'Civil Contract' faction, writes Moscow Times.
Relations between Russia and Armenia have escalated due to Yerevan's plans to join the EU. Since May, Moscow has consistently banned supplies of various Armenian products, including alcohol, vegetables, fruits, fish, milk, and flowers.
The first Russian bans on the import and transit of Armenian goods appeared shortly before the parliamentary elections in the republic, which took place on June 7, and after Pashinyan's party's victory, their number sharply increased.
