Iran Calls Trump's Team "Clowns" Amidst Strait of Hormuz Dispute
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf mocked the administration of US President Donald Trump amidst the confrontation around the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on X, he criticized Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, calling the American administration a "team of clowns." According to Ghalibaf, Washington should not expect it to "pull a rabbit out of a hat and eliminate the chaos," writes Bild.
The statement came after Trump published a map on which the Strait of Hormuz was marked as "new US territory." Earlier, the US President said that Washington effectively controls the strait and stated that he was not in a hurry to conclude a new agreement with Tehran.
Tehran claims it continues to blockade the strait and demands that the US lift oil sanctions, unfreeze Iranian assets, and cease military operations in the region. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most important routes for global oil trade.
Middle East expert Jonathan Schanzer from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies believes that Tehran hopes to use rising oil prices and pressure on shipping to extract concessions from Washington.
