Since late May, residents in the Minsk region have observed an anomalous invasion of beetles that are destroying plants.

In one of the TikTok videos, a resident of the Dzyarzhynsk district complains that beetles are covering house walls and crawling inside. She believes their large numbers are due to the treatment of nearby fields.
We're just in shock! Fzyarzhynsk district, Stankovo village. This is some kind of horror! We can't get rid of them with anything, they crawl out of all cracks, they fly into houses, they cover everything. Today I woke up, they were crawling on me. This is because rapsed is being treated. They swarmed together, crawled onto houses.
These beetles are alfalfa leaf weevils.
The activity of the beetles this season was most likely influenced by the unusually snowy winter, say Belarusian scientists. The insects successfully survived it.
«There was good snow cover, the pests did not freeze, they emerged from the ground and are migrating,» Victoria Kozak, head of the department of the Minsk Regional Inspectorate for Seed Production, Quarantine and Plant Protection, told «Belarus 1».
She advised what gardeners should do.
«It is better to use various preparations that are registered in the state register of plant protection products and fertilizers, which are publicly available. And also to use deep plowing to send the beetles deeper into the soil, so that they have less chance to reappear later».
The development cycle of new generations for this type of beetle is only once every two years.
Closer to August, young beetles will emerge from pupae. But they will remain in the soil until April — early May of the following year.
