A Belarusian Woman Moved Her 84-Year-Old Mother to Egypt: Even Her Blood Pressure Became Like an Astronaut's

Convincing elderly parents to relocate is a difficult task. However, Natallia Tsybulskaya shared a completely different story on social media. Her mother was happy to move to Egypt at 84 years old.

Natallia shared an unconventional story of her life in the comments when she saw a question about whether anyone had moved to Egypt of their own free will.

Many immediately thought that the Belarusian woman had probably married an Egyptian and therefore lived in her husband's homeland for many years. But no: Natallia does not have a husband. She decided to leave Belarus at one point due to a change in religion. At university, she studied religious studies and learned a lot about Islam. Twenty-six years ago, she decided to convert to this religion.

Natallia writes that her compatriots did not perceive her as a Muslim and constantly bullied her: «Even now, when I need to fly in for business, problems begin already at the airport.»

This surprises Natallia. She says that 80% of people in Belarus are atheists. It would seem, why should they care what religion other compatriots adhere to? But the reality was unpleasant.

The Belarusian woman lived in Dubai for two years. She didn't like the climate there very much, saying she suffered from the heat. Afterwards, she remembered her childhood dream. Back in fifth grade, when studying the history of Ancient Egypt, Natallia became captivated by the idea of living there. When she first came to Egypt, she immediately understood: this was her country.

Now the woman works as a physical education teacher at a school, a gym trainer, and a rehabilitation specialist, and also earns income from renting out her own real estate.

Several years ago, Natallia brought her 84-year-old mother to Egypt to live with her. Her mother had actively traveled throughout her youth and went to the sea every year until she was 55. The not-so-short flight to her daughter, her mother handled quite easily, and afterwards, she flew back to Belarus more than once when there were some issues to resolve.

The Belarusian woman shares her own experience. She says she knows that for elderly people, it's very important to have familiar food when emigrating. But she was lucky in this regard too.

Even back when mother and daughter lived in different countries, Natallia, upon visiting her homeland, would cook traditional Egyptian dishes. Her mother liked them. And in Egypt itself, she appreciated the abundance of fruits and vegetables, as well as local desserts.

Moreover, her mother's health only improved in the new country: «In Belarus, her blood pressure was off the charts, but in Egypt, it was 130 over 80. She is a veteran of labor, with 65 years of continuous service. She only stopped working at 80 years old.»

Regarding questions about the heat, Natallia explains that, on the contrary, her mother was comfortable in the warmer climate. The thing is, with age, thermoregulation worsens, and people start to feel cold: «She didn't want to turn on the air conditioner in summer; she was fine without it.»

Most of all, Natallia's mother liked how Egyptians treat elderly people: «Neighbors would come to her with various treats. They spoke through me; I translated.»

She did not suffer from nostalgia. On her last visit to Belarus, when she needed to sort out her pension, the elderly woman couldn't wait to return to Egypt.

She even instructed her daughter to bury her in Egypt when the time came. The woman passed away 4 days before her 88th birthday and was buried in a Christian cemetery.

Natallia's story gained almost 7,000 likes in 24 hours. People are thankful that she shared her experience, as many migrants think about bringing their parents to live with them but are afraid to do so.

They are also happy that Natallia's mother had the chance to live in another country and see its beauty.
