Trump canceled planned strikes on Iran and announced success in negotiations

On June 11, US President Donald Trump announced that he had canceled the American strikes planned for the evening on Iran. According to him, this decision was made because negotiations between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran reached the highest level and received the support of the Iranian leadership, BBC reports .

Donald Trump announced that the parties had already agreed on the basic principles and details of the future agreement.

He claims that the agreements reached were supported not only by the USA and Iran, but also by Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and a number of other states.

At the same time, Trump noted that the naval blockade of Iran will remain in effect until the agreement is finally signed. The date and place of signing, according to him, are to be announced later.

This statement came as a surprise, as shortly before, Trump had spoken very harshly and warned of a powerful American strike on Iran. He stated that Iranian naval and air forces, air defense systems, radar complexes, and a significant portion of the country's offensive potential had already been destroyed, and the new strike was intended to be even more devastating.

In addition, Trump announced the US intention to take control of the Iranian island of Khark and other key oil and gas infrastructure facilities in the country. He claimed that Washington would be able to control a significant portion of the Iranian oil and gas market, drawing parallels with US policy in Venezuela.

These statements came against the backdrop of an escalation of the conflict between the US and Iran. For several days, the parties exchanged blows. The American Central Command reported that it struck the third vessel in the Gulf of Oman within a week. According to the US version, the vessel Jalveer, flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau, violated the American-imposed blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz area.

However, Trump later slightly softened his position. He noted that although the capture of Khark Island might be the right step from a military point of view, he was not sure that the United States was truly ready to take such a risky step. Analysts saw in these words a signal that the White House, despite its harsh rhetoric, was taking into account the possible political and military consequences of further escalation of the conflict.

The situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains very tense. India confirmed the death of three of its citizens as a result of an American strike on the tanker Settebello, which was sailing under the flag of Palau off the coast of Oman. India's Ministry of Foreign Affairs called this incident very tragic and a cause for concern.

Iranian media also reported explosions near the city of Sirik on the coast of the Strait of Hormuz. However, there has been no independent confirmation of the causes of these explosions, and US and Iranian authorities have not issued official comments.

Iranian authorities stated that the actions of the United States effectively render the ceasefire meaningless. Tehran continued to strike American targets and Washington's allies in the Persian Gulf countries. For example, an eleven-year-old girl was wounded in Bahrain as a result of an Iranian drone attack.

Despite statements about a possible peace agreement, Trump reported in an interview on Thursday morning that US troops had dropped bombs worth approximately $250 million on Iran the previous night.

Against the backdrop of these events, a number of countries, including Pakistan, Russia, and China, called on Washington and Tehran to cease escalation and return to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict.
