In Kazan, Evgeny Chekulaev, who once became famous for changing his name to Jesus Christ, was found dead. This was reported by the man's lawyer, writes "Snob".

Evgeny Chekulaev was 46 years old. According to the lawyer, his death was not criminal – the client simply abused alcohol. The body was found after the apartment was opened at the request of neighbors who complained about a bad smell.
In February 2026, a court ordered the Kazan Jesus Christ to return his former name and re-issue his documents. The previous record of the change, made in 2020, was annulled. The prosecutor's claim was based on the conclusion of the Ministry of Justice of Russia, which states that changing a name for religious reasons is not allowed.
Earlier, Chekulaev was also conditionally sentenced to two years for the fictitious registration of 45 foreigners in his 31.9 square meter apartment.
