In the Republic of South Africa, 12 people have died and nine more were injured in a mass shooting in the Cleveland area on the outskirts of Johannesburg. The incident occurred late in the evening on June 9, BBC writes .

According to police, more than ten armed individuals arrived in a white Toyota Quantum minibus at a petrol station, then entered an informal settlement from two sides and opened fire on local residents. After the attack, they fled in the same vehicle.
Eight men and three women died at the scene, and one more man died in the hospital. The injured with gunshot wounds were taken to medical facilities.
Police have launched a search for the suspects. The motives for the attack are currently unknown and are being investigated.
South Africa remains one of the countries with a high murder rate. Shootings in informal settlements occur regularly and are often linked to gang activity or various conflicts.
