Mosaic stained glass, unique chandeliers. How Minsk's main Civil Registry Office is being restored

Minsk's main Civil Registry Office at Komunisticheskaya, 8 stopped accepting newlyweds in spring 2024. Since then, the premises have been undergoing reconstruction. And if last year everything inside looked far from ready — a complete demolition and desolation — today beauty is already visible there, writes Onliner.

Visually, the building has not changed, as this was not intended due to its historical and cultural value. Arched windows have been replaced, new doors have appeared, and the entrance groups have been faced with natural grey granite.

But inside, the changes are obvious: rich solid wood doors with decorative carvings, similar radiator covers, Venetian plaster, restored mosaic stained-glass windows, and a triptych by Soviet monumental artist Leonid Dudarenka, depicting stages of the Belarusian wedding ceremony.

The arrival of three unique large chandeliers is expected any day now.

In the foyer of the left wing of the building, there is new porcelain stoneware flooring, while in the right wing, the oak parquet has been preserved. After sanding and lacquering, it will shine like new: specialists clarified that time has no power over quality work.

As a result of the redesign, another hall for ceremonies has appeared, the bride's and groom's rooms have been enlarged, a barrier-free environment has been created, and an additional entrance has been made, which, by the way, existed before.

It has not yet been announced exactly when the Palace of Civil Ceremonies will again delight the heroes of celebrations and their guests.
