Belarusian forged documents to become chairman of a housing association in Druskininkai — he was tried
Belarusian citizen Aliaksandr Emshanau came up with an original, yet criminal, scheme for earning money in the Lithuanian resort town. He forged documents to become the head of a local housing association and gain access to the accumulated money of residents of an apartment building, writes LRT.
The adventure began in April last year. The man decided to seize power in one of the houses in Druskininkai. At the same time, it is claimed that the apartment owners did not elect him to the position. The Belarusian falsified all necessary documents, and these forgeries were enough for state authorities to officially register him as the chairman of the association.
Upon becoming head, Emshanau gained the right to act on behalf of the residents. His real goal was other people's money, a conclusion reached by the court. Immediately after his "appointment," the Belarusian contacted the company managing the building, demanding that 11,509 euros of funds accumulated by the residents be transferred to the association's bank account.
The Alytus District Court found the Belarusian guilty and sentenced him to one year of restricted freedom. Emshanau tried to appeal this decision, but the Kaunas Regional Court of Appeal dismissed his complaint. The verdict has come into legal force, although the Belarusian still has the right to cassation.
