Dmitry Koldun showed his dacha near Minsk. He is fighting for his lawn with his wife's garden beds

One might expect a luxurious cottage, but no: Dmitry and his family are grilling shashlik next to a house built in the post-war years. The artist inherited it from his grandfather.

Dmitry Koldun travels with his family to their dacha in Smolevichi. He invited a film crew from the Russian TV channel NTV there.

The singer recounted that he spent every summer here in his childhood with his grandparents. Dmitry says that earlier the entire plot was given over to a vegetable garden. Now the singer is fighting for his lawn, but he has strong opponents. Before he knew it, his wife had put up a greenhouse and started garden beds.

— My mother walks around the plot and gives orders. My wife and mother-in-law are constantly replanting things, moving them around, collecting lavender. In short, they give no peace to themselves or others.

The artist's mother, Tatiana, boasted that Dmitry's grandmother had received certificates for the most well-maintained plot in Smolevichi more than once in her time.

His 12-year-old son Jan advises his parents not to bother with the small old house, but to sell it. Dmitry reacted to this proposal with a Belarusian proverb: "Grown to the sky, but as foolish as ever."

Of course, he could have built himself a palace long ago, but he is fundamentally against it. Because he wants to preserve the house where his childhood passed. A few years ago, he insulated the veranda and the roof, and installed heating. His wife helped Dmitry with the interior design of the house.

By the way, Koldun keeps various awards precisely at the dacha. He explains that if he sees them every day, he might relax too much. And in the cellar, where potatoes used to be stored, Dmitry hid his archive — romantic postcards from his wife, a disk with songs from "Star Factory," some things from "Eurovision"...

The singer jokes that he needs to lock his whole family in the cellar to finally sort through the archive.

The artist said that his beloved grandfather Boris, in addition to the dacha, also left a signature tincture recipe. Koldun makes it from cherries and chokeberries.

The singer also boasted that he made a bench according to his grandfather's drawings.

— He brought this drawing from Königsberg during the war. We improved it — and now, from a terrace board, such a wonderful bench is made in a few days. We even think we might start manufacturing benches. It turned out very well. Such a reliable bench. I envy myself.

That very bench

At the same time, Koldun admits that family gatherings at his dacha don't happen often. He spends most of his life in Moscow or on tour. His family, however, is in Belarus.
