Israel announced the death of the new head of Hamas's military wing
Israel stated that Mohammed Adeh, commander of Hamas's military wing, was killed during a strike on Gaza on Tuesday — a few days after his predecessor died in a similar attack, the BBC writes .
According to local medics and witnesses, at least three Palestinians were killed and dozens more were wounded as a result of an Israeli strike that hit a residential building in one of Gaza City's busiest market areas.
The Israeli military and Shin Bet security service stated that the buildings that served as a hideout for Mohammed Adeh were attacked after his movements had been tracked for several months.
The strike hit the top three floors of the "Al-Kayali" building in the center of Gaza City, where the streets were filled with shoppers on the eve of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.
A statement from the Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet reads: "As part of a joint operation by the IDF and Shin Bet to eliminate the terrorist Mohammed Adeh, several buildings in the center of Gaza City that served as his hideout were attacked, following several months of intelligence surveillance aimed at tracking his movements and the movements of his assistants in the organization."
Witnesses reported that at least five missiles were launched at the building almost simultaneously from different directions. One resident said that he heard the sound of a helicopter circling in the sky before the attack.
A local Hamas source later told the BBC that Mohammed Adeh and his wife were killed. Adeh's family also reported that his son died from his injuries in the hospital on Wednesday morning, and the funeral took place after noon prayers at a mosque in Gaza City.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday that Mohammed Adeh was "one of the architects of the October 7 massacre."
"Adeh was responsible for the murder, kidnapping, and wounding of many Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers," the statement said.
His predecessor as commander of the group's armed wing, Iz ad-Din al-Hadad, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in early May.
According to witnesses and a local source, that strike also hit a residential building and claimed the lives of at least three people.
