Hurnievič: I'm trying to find a reason to vote for the KC, but I can't. Because of the behavior of KC members
Svaboda journalist Dzmitry Hurnievič shared his thoughts on the Coordinating Council ahead of new elections. He voted last time, but says it's hard for him to find a reason to vote again. The author's main complaint is the structure's focus on internal bureaucracy and the lack of visible work results.

Dzmitry Hurnievič
As someone who voted in the elections for the Coordinating Council in 2024, I am trying to find a reason to do it again, but I cannot.
To avoid unnecessary explanations, I'll add immediately that both then and now, many very worthy people – educated, brave, and active – are nominated there. And it is this that makes me wonder: where do they direct their energy, what do they do there, and what is the efficiency of it?
Perhaps it exists, and is even significant; I would be grateful if someone could tell me, and I would admit that I was mistaken.
The argument that the regime proves their strength and influence by persecuting them and confiscating property does not convince me. This is how the government combats almost all opponents.
The argument that this is a representative body? And without it, was it somehow different, and no one in the West perceived democratic forces? Nothing has changed. But now, this is also to the credit of the KC.
Perhaps since the last elections, KC members have developed reform projects, as announced. Let's compile a rating of the most interesting ones!!! I myself haven't encountered anything yet, despite being interested and even participating in a Telegram group where KC members discuss. But it seems that at least there, KC members are primarily occupied with "sensations" surrounding the KC. And in this, I see a dead end.
Because intelligent people have received a bureaucratic structure and direct their energy towards a "struggle" that no one even notices. They argue about bureaucracy.
The KC was supposed to become a school of parliamentarism, where its members would show how decisions are made and discussions are held. But decisions about what? About resolutions, strategies, plans? About creating new friendship groups in other parliaments? This sounds nice and solid, but what does it influence? What, will another PACE solidarity statement with Belarus be adopted? This only creates the illusion of bustling work without any result.
Has the KC created new stars in politics? Rather, the opposite: some interesting people have left and vowed not to engage in politics anymore. Where I see discussions among KC members, they talk about the KC.
My motive for this post is not empty criticism, but an attempt to understand.
The purpose of any political activity, in my opinion, should be directed towards working with public opinion within the country. And if activists are engaged in bureaucracy, there simply won't be time for that. I repeat, it's a pity to see the energy of intelligent people in the KC wasted.
And the argument that even Russians in emigration envy Belarusians in this political construction, that's not much of an argument.
But I do not lose hope of hearing meaningful arguments and that I will find a reason to vote this time too.
