Russian z-artists, Russian language on posters. What have festivals in ancient Novogrudok turned into
On August 21, the festival "Vytinanka-Vybivanka. Openwork Code of Novogrudok" began. Its example shows what festivals in the former capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania have been turning into in recent years, writes "Salidarnasts".
The posters are entirely in Russian, the local district newspaper "Novaye Zhytszyo" writes about the festival in Russian. On the castle grounds, the signs are also in Russian.
The concert program is hosted by Russian KVN star Dmitry Kolchin, and Vadim Samoylov, a former member of the band "Agata Kristi" who supports Putin and his war against Ukraine, is announced as the headliner.
Both the program and the ambiance strongly contrast with what Novogrudok saw a quarter of a century ago, when the tradition of medieval culture festivals began here. Those festivals gathered tens of thousands of guests from Belarus and neighboring countries, including musicians from Poland, Ukraine, Russia, and Lithuania.
