On August 17, a Russian "Banderol" missile flew into the airspace of Moldova. This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to information from the National Army of Moldova, an unknown aerial object was detected in the Kuchurgan — Tiraspol area at 17:37. Later it disappeared from radars near the village of Talmaza in the Ștefan Vodă district. An explosion occurred approximately three kilometers from the settlement, after which dry grass caught fire.
Emergency services and specialists were dispatched to the scene to determine all circumstances of the incident and assess its consequences.
Due to this incident, Moldova temporarily closed its airspace in the central part of the country for approximately 15 minutes.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, it was indeed a Russian "Banderol" missile. Earlier, Ukrainian military personnel reported several such missiles moving in the direction of Chornomorsk and Odesa.
Some sources claimed that the object initially flew into the territory of unrecognized Transnistria. The explosion was heard by residents of Pervomaisk, located near the border with the Odesa region of Ukraine.
This is not the first such incident in Moldova in August. On August 9, near the village of Crocmaz in the Ștefan Vodă district, a, presumably, Russian combat drone exploded. As a result, several private houses were damaged.
According to Moldovan specialists, that device exploded at a height of about 2.5 meters after colliding with a tree. Components similar to guided missile elements were found in its debris, which is why it was provisionally called a drone-missile.
After this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova recalled its ambassador to Russia for consultations. And even earlier, on August 5, Moldova also found fragments of Russian "Geranium" drones.
