"The KGB and OMON raided director Andrei Kudzinenka's home. Andrei was forced to flee Belarus," wrote Kudzinenka's friend, Janusz Havryliuk, director of the Bulbamovie festival of Belarusian films, on Facebook.

According to Havryliuk, Belarusian authorities accused Kudzinenka of "extremism." During the searches of his apartment and film school, eight OMON officers and two KGB officers participated. The searches lasted 15 hours. Kudzinenka's passport and phone were confiscated. All of Andrei's messengers and social media accounts are now controlled by the KGB. The director was told he faces 8 to 12 years in prison.

"Today, the most important thing is that Andrei is safe. We want to believe that he will soon be able to make films again, instead of fighting for his own freedom," Janusz Havryliuk added.

Andrei Kudzinenka is a Belarusian director and screenwriter. He gained fame in 2004 with his feature film "Occupation. Mysteries," a film about the events of the Second World War in Belarus. The film consists of three parts and offers a perspective on the war different from the traditional partisan view. Kudzinenka also directed the film "Massacre," which touches upon the events of the 1863 Uprising, among other works.

Kudzinenka is a co-founder of the Bulbamovie festival and was the curator of the "Chronotope" art festival, held in the Pastavy district. At "Belarusfilm," he directed a TV series about Olympic champion Alexander Medved.
