For over a year, she battled cancer and urged others to enjoy life.

On Sunday, farewell was bid to writer Sviatlana Kurs in Warsaw. Relatives, friends, and devoted readers came to see her off on her final journey. The writer's body was cremated.



Sviatlana passed away on July 20 at 54 years old. For over a year, she battled cancer and had recently been in hospital.

The writer's novel «What Are You Going For, Wolf?», published in 2020, became one of the best Belarusian works of the 21st century. In 2021, for this novel, the writer received the Jerzy Giedroyc Literary Award. The novel has been translated into German, Polish, Swedish, Lithuanian, Norwegian, English, and other languages, opening up the intricate and often grim Belarusian history to European readers.
