The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank presented a series of dollar banknotes with an updated design, Myfin.by writes .
This refers to the Eastern Caribbean dollar — the currency unit of seven members of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines) and one associate member (Anguilla).
Following the death of British Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, it was decided to change the design of the front side of Eastern Caribbean dollar banknotes, placing portraits of local prominent figures on them, rather than the new King Charles III.
For example, the 100-dollar banknotes will feature portraits of former Prime Minister of Saint Lucia John Compton and economist, Nobel laureate Arthur Lewis, who also hails from that country.
And the 5-dollar banknote will feature Grenadian athlete and Olympic champion Kirani James, as well as former Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Robert Milton Cato.
The introduction of new banknotes into circulation is planned for 2027. No significant changes are expected in the design of the reverse sides of the banknotes.
The front side of the banknotes currently in circulation features Queen Elizabeth II.
