Traffic police proposed to restrict truck movement on MKAD

The Minsk State Traffic Inspectorate proposed introducing additional restrictions for freight transport on the Minsk Ring Road (MKAD). This initiative was put forward by Sergei Babich, head of the Traffic Police Department of the Main Internal Affairs Directorate of the Minsk City Executive Committee, at a meeting of the road safety commission.

It is proposed to prohibit the movement of trucks with a technically permissible total mass of more than 3.5 tons on the second lane of the outer ring of the MKAD on two sections:

  • from Leitenanta Kizhevatova Street to Svislotskaya Street;
  • from Dauginauski Trakt to Pobediteley Avenue.

According to the head of the capital's traffic police, freight, slow-moving, and public transport remain one of the main threats to traffic safety on the ring road. At the same time, current traffic rules already prohibit trucks from moving in lanes located to the left of the second lane.

To further reduce the risk of road accidents, it is proposed to restrict the movement of heavy trucks even in the second lane on the most heavily loaded sections of the outer ring.

Earlier, city authorities reported on measures to combat traffic jams in the center of Minsk and on the MKAD. In particular, to reduce the number of freight transport on the ring road near Minsk, an access road from MKAD-2 to the "Kolyadichi" industrial zone is being built.
