Turkmenistan can now be visited with an e-visa and without a mandatory invitation
Since October 1, Turkmenistan has introduced electronic tourist visas and at the same time abolished the requirement for a mandatory official invitation for foreign tourists, reported the Republican Union of Tourist Organizations.

Currently, e-TU electronic tourist visas, business visas, and humanitarian visas are available. It can usually be processed within seven working days. For urgent processing, a visa is issued in three days, and an express visa can be obtained in 24 hours. The cost depends on the type of visa and the processing time.
Previously, foreigners needed an official invitation, approved by the country's migration service, to visit Turkmenistan. To obtain it, tourists had to contact a local licensed travel company. Now, such an invitation is no longer required.
Even earlier, since April 2026, Turkmenistan simplified the migration registration of foreigners by converting it to an electronic format. If a foreigner plans to stay in the country for more than three working days, information about their whereabouts can be submitted online by either the host party or the tourist themselves. Instant registration using biometrics is provided at some border crossing points.
Thus, in recent times, Turkmenistan has significantly simplified several procedures related to the entry and stay of foreign tourists in the country.
The liberalization of Turkmen tourist legislation is taking place against the backdrop of initiatives by neighboring countries to create a common tourist space in Central Asia.
In particular, Uzbekistan is actively promoting the idea of a "Central Asian Tourist Ring". One possible combined route through Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan could look like this: Khiva — Konye-Urgench — Ashgabat — Mary and ancient Merv, which are UNESCO World Heritage sites — Bukhara.
For Turkmenistan, this creates an opportunity to join the existing flow of travelers visiting the countries of the region along routes associated with the Great Silk Road.
In addition, the concept of a "Central Asian Schengen" — a single visa that would allow visiting several countries in the region — is currently being discussed. Turkmenistan has not yet officially confirmed its participation in this project, but the launch of its own electronic visa is seen as an important signal of its readiness for greater integration into the common tourist space of Central Asia.
