The incident occurred on the night of August 30 while wagons were being moved from Hromy station to a woodworking enterprise in the Polotsk district, according to the Investigative Committee.
The train shunter, who was in the first wagon, noticed a person lying on the railway tracks in the dark. He immediately signaled for emergency braking to the diesel locomotive driver, who was at the rear of the train.
However, due to significant inertia, the collision could not be avoided, and the 61-year-old man died on the spot from his injuries.
