"People are reserved, but not always kind." A barber moved from Crimea to Minsk, but didn't last long and fled to Moscow

Barber Daniil Lukichau is convinced: you can only live in Belarus if you have a remote job — like in Thailand or Vietnam.

Daniil says on Instagram that he decided to move from Crimea to Minsk quite quickly. He doesn't believe that preparing for migration takes years. He says that packing up and leaving can easily be done in one day – and that's what the man did.

When Daniil was waiting for his train to a new future, he Googled that apartment rentals in Minsk are expensive, and potential salaries in his field are many times lower than in Moscow.

"Honestly, this upset me already at the train station, but it was impossible to return the tickets because it was an international flight. But I didn't lose hope and decided to try anyway, to see this country."

Overall, Daniil liked Belarus, although he says he met many angry and unpleasant individuals.

"It felt like I had moved from Crimea to Crimea. Because there are few people, no particular crowding, no hustle and bustle. That is, everything is calm. But behind this calmness lay the fact that you wouldn't find work there."

Daniil believes that Belarus has turned into Thailand or Vietnam, where you can live quite well only if you have a remote job.

"The exchange rate is constantly fluctuating. In my experience, it's best to pay with a Mir card."

The barber starts to say something about politics but stops mid-sentence: "No, can't talk about politics, damn it."

He notes that the level of barber work in Minsk is quite high — much higher than in Russia (which attracted him). However, the prices disappointed him — he says it's sad that true professionals charge approximately 45 to 70 rubles. The man is not willing to work for such money.

"But most barbers sit on chair rental and simply cut their clients' hair. I couldn't find any more or less decent barbershop."

As a result, Daniil very quickly moved to Moscow and is satisfied with this choice, as there are significantly more opportunities.

The video went viral and sparked a discussion with hundreds of comments. Many wrote that Daniil was lying and that there was plenty of work in the country — "there's a shortage of hands everywhere." Others agreed: there's a lot of work, but the salaries offered are meager.

Of course, there were opinions that only a lazy person wouldn't earn $1000 in Minsk.

Someone supported the barber: "You reason correctly. In fact, living there is not easy. Many succumbed to the hype around Belarus and thought about moving, but not everyone can withstand such a life with low wages, a climate like in St. Petersburg or London, with squally winds and eternal cold. They correctly wrote to you about the mentality too. For many who come, it's sometimes morally difficult with such freedom of manners, although I myself am fine with it, it didn't even offend me. People should also not be idealized. They are simply reserved, but not always kind."
