Russian prankster threw money into water and filmed who would dive for it
But he severely miscalculated the location for the prank. As a result, he faces up to 5 years in prison.
In Russia, pop-MMA fighter Sviatoslav Kovalenko and his friend were detained after a scandalous video in which they offered people to dive into the water for a 5,000 Russian ruble banknote (about 59 dollars) near Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd.
According to Russian media, on July 24, the 36-year-old blogger, along with a friend, threw money near the monument "Stand to Death" and called on people to retrieve it from the water. He filmed all of this and later published it on social networks. His 31-year-old acquaintance Andrei Yaroshenko played the role of a passerby who allegedly jumped into the water for the money.
After the scandal that arose from this incident, Kovalenko and Yaroshenko left the Volgograd region.
The men were later detained in various regions of Russia. They are accused of desecrating military burials and a memorial structure. For such a crime, they could face up to five years of imprisonment and a fine of up to 5 million Russian rubles.
Later, the court arrested Kovalenko and Yaroshenko until October 5. The fighter admitted his guilt, but his friend did not.
