The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has officially approved former SBU head Yevhen Khmara as Minister of Defense. To meet the requirement for a civilian head of the department, he resigned from military service.

Khmara is an experienced military officer and one of the former leaders of the 'Alfa' special unit.
He participated in combat operations in Donbas since 2014, and after the start of the full-scale invasion, he took part in the liberation of Kyiv Oblast, battles for Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk, as well as in the operation to liberate Snake Island.
Meanwhile, protests continued in Kyiv today for the return of dismissed Mykhailo Fedorov to the post of Minister of Defense.
