An unusual wedding photograph featuring four pairs of twins went viral on social media. The wedding took place on July 30 at the Metropolitan Church in Kottayam district, Kerala state.
32-year-old brothers Akhil and Nikhil Thomas had long wanted to marry twin sisters. Their family had been searching for suitable brides for almost three years. During this time, the brothers met with approximately 40 pairs of twin sisters before they met 31-year-old Magi and Maria Mary.
As it turned out, the sisters had also dreamed since childhood of marrying twin brothers. After meeting Akhil and Nikhil, they decided that these men would be their husbands.
Since both couples wanted to make the wedding special, the brides suggested that twin priests officiate the ceremony. The idea arose after the sisters saw twin boys Jerron and Yohann James assisting during a church service. They invited them to participate in their wedding.
Twin priests Anto and Anjo Perumkattil were later found by Akhil and Nikhil's mother. She met the brothers at a church prayer meeting and suggested they officiate the unusual ceremony. The priests gladly agreed.
As a result, four pairs of twins were present at one wedding: two grooms, two brides, two priests, and two altar boys.
After the photos became popular online, the twin priests themselves found themselves in the spotlight. Anjo said that after the spread of the pictures, two more families had already contacted them, wishing for them to officiate the weddings of their twin children.
However, Akhil and Nikhil's marriage to Magi and Maria was not a love marriage in the Western sense. It was arranged by parents and elder family members, which is consistent with the traditional Indian model where relatives help find a future husband or wife.
The brides and grooms admit they were surprised by the scale of attention to their wedding photos. Maria emphasized that they did not seek fame and did not arrange the wedding for likes. It was their dream wedding, which unexpectedly went viral online.
