Anatol Mikhailau, a renowned Belarusian medical scientist who made a significant contribution to the development of medical science in Belarus and beyond, has died at the age of 90, the press service of the Ministry of Health reported .

Anatol Mikhailau was an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, a doctor of medical sciences, professor, and head of the Department of Radiation Diagnostics at the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Healthcare Personnel of the Belarusian State Medical University.
His scientific activity covered various areas of medicine, including cardiology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, angiology, and urology. The scientist paid special attention to the development of new methods of X-ray diagnostics for diseases of the cardiovascular system and digestive organs.
Mikhailau also engaged in the creation of computer diagnostic systems and modern medical imaging tools.
In 1992, as part of an author collective, he became a laureate of the State Prize of Belarus for a series of works on the development and implementation of new diagnostic and treatment methods in vascular surgery.
Anatol Mikhailau established his own scientific school of specialists in the field of medical imaging in Belarus. His work had a significant impact on the development of this area in Belarusian medicine.
In 2018, at the first Congress of the Belarusian Society of Radiologists, Mikhailau was elected an honorary member of the organization. In 2021, the scientist was awarded the Francysk Skaryna Medal, and most recently, on July 22, 2026, he was awarded the title of Honored Scientist.
