White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will leave her position at the end of August, US President Donald Trump announced, writes the BBC.
Leavitt, whom Trump called one of his "most trusted aides," decided to step down to spend more time with her family and young children. The President wrote on social media that he "fully understands and respects this decision."
«Now Karoline will be one of my chief outside advisors and an influential voice in the Republican Party,» Trump wrote.
Leavitt assumed the role of White House Press Secretary in January 2025. She was 27 years old at the time, making her the youngest press secretary in American administration history. It is not yet known who will take her place.
Leavitt also served as press secretary for Trump's 2024 election campaign. She is considered one of the most prominent representatives of the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement, which unites Trump's supporters.
Leavitt, a staunch supporter of Trump, wrote on social network X that working at the White House was for her "the honor and adventure of a lifetime."
«Being a mother, raising a newborn child, and simultaneously working in one of the most demanding positions in the world — this is, to say the least, the most intense and challenging, yet also the happiest period of my life,» she wrote.
Last February, her office took control of forming the White House press pool, stripping the White House Correspondents' Association of its organizational powers. In addition, the administration temporarily restricted the Associated Press agency's access to the press pool due to its refusal to use the name "American Gulf" instead of the Gulf of Mexico.
Meanwhile, supporters of the Trump administration highly praised Leavitt for consistently adhering to the official White House line and actively defending the president's policies.
Leavitt ranks second in length of service as press secretary among employees of both Trump administrations. Only Sarah Huckabee Sanders held the position longer than her.
It is currently unknown who will become Trump's sixth chief press representative during his two presidential terms.
