Kaliningrad carriers complain that their trucks are massively detained in Belarus

Kaliningrad carriers have encountered mass detentions of trucks in Belarus. Some tractors are removed from routes and sent for expert examination, which can last several months, writes the regional publication "Klops".

As Ivan Zaitsev, a representative of one of the transport companies, told the publication, the problem arises after crossing the Lithuanian-Belarusian border. The driver submits the necessary documents, after which he is informed that the tractor must be left in the parking lot for an indefinite period. At the same time, carriers are not explained why a particular vehicle is chosen for inspection.

According to Zaitsev, at the checkpoint, drivers are told that their vehicle remains for expert examination and are advised to contact management, call another tractor, and pick up the trailer.

Carriers assume that the inspections are related to ascertaining the authenticity of documents for vehicles. In one case, the documents for the tractor were issued by the Kaliningrad State Automobile Inspectorate back in February.

According to carriers' information, the problem affects more than one checkpoint. There could be about 300 trucks with Kaliningrad registration involved. About ten such vehicles have already gathered at one of the border crossings.

The duration of expert examinations varies significantly. Zaitsev's tractor stood for about a week, but other carriers report waiting for three to four months or even longer.

This creates particularly serious consequences for companies transporting perishable goods. Zaitsev's firm transports hanging meat, for which delivery times are strictly limited. According to him, only four days are given for delivery to the destination.

If a tractor is detained, the carrier has to urgently look for another vehicle to pick up the trailer and not disrupt the supply. In one case, the value of the cargo was about 4 million Russian rubles (about 48.5 thousand US dollars).

Losses are incurred not only by carriers but also by cargo owners. Transport stands idle, drivers need to be paid wages, and additional expenses can ultimately increase the cost of goods for consumers.

Carriers also complain about the waiting conditions. Detained tractors are sent to special parking lots where, according to them, there are neither cafes nor shops.

Entrepreneurs are already contacting the hotline of the Association of International Road Carriers, but so far, they have not been able to resolve the problem with prolonged inspections.
