"What, should I kill Tsikhanouskaya's children to draw attention to my problem?" How a stupid comment by activist Dzianis Dashkevich created problems for him in Poland

Dashkevich says he wrote it purely out of emotion, but who cares anymore?

Belarusian propaganda accused Rogachov activist Dzianis Dashkevich, who lives in Poland, of preparing an assassination attempt on Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's children. Dashkevich himself admits that after receiving a decision to revoke his refugee status, he indeed wrote an unacceptable phrase about the democratic leader's children in a private correspondence. However, he claims that it was an emotional message, he planned no actions, and Polish special services had no questions for him after an investigation.

It was reported in Raman Pratasevich's Telegram channel that Dzianis Dashkevich was involved in the story. It was alleged that Dashkevich was looking for information about the whereabouts of Tsikhanouskaya and her children, and also allegedly considered an assassination attempt as a way to draw attention to his problems.

In a conversation with "Nasha Niva", Dashkevich says he learned about the publication from journalists himself.

— I'm a bit in shock. Neither Pratasevich nor Belarusian propagandists contacted me or asked for an interview. I don't know Raman Pratasevich personally at all. I don't understand why he wrote this.

"He wrote: 'Should I kill Tsikhanouskaya's children, or what?'"

Dashkevich does not deny mentioning Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's children in correspondence. According to him, this happened after he received a decision from Polish authorities to revoke his refugee status.

— I was emotional and indeed wrote to several human rights defenders something like: "What, should I kill Tsikhanouskaya's children to draw attention to my problem?" I admit this. But I took no action: I didn't look for her, I didn't write anything to her, and I didn't express this publicly anywhere.

He says he sent messages in private chats, including to members of the "Partyzanka" chat, whom he approached for help.

— I wrote to everyone in a row because I didn't know what to do. A person receives such a document and realizes that in Belarus, death virtually awaits him. This is not an excuse, but I was in a very difficult emotional state. It was a phrase without any ulterior motive, not a plan of action.

Information was handed over to Polish authorities from Belarus

Dashkevich claims that Belarusian special services became aware of the correspondence. After this, according to him, the Belarusian side officially warned Poland about an alleged terrorist attack in preparation.

— Employees of the ABW — the Polish Internal Security Agency — came to me. They showed materials: a Belarusian minister had passed information to the Polish side that a terrorist attack was being prepared in Poland. My surname was not even mentioned initially, as far as I understand, but eventually, it was about me.

Dashkevich showed his correspondence to the ABW employees and gave explanations. According to him, the investigation lasted several days and has already concluded.

— I showed everything. As far as I understand, all questions were resolved after that. I was not detained. Polish law enforcement agencies did not press any charges against me.

There is no official information from the ABW about the results of the investigation.

Dashkevich notes that the information about the revocation of his refugee status was not public at that time:

— Only the people I wrote to and asked for help knew about this. Therefore, I am sure that everything started precisely with my messages. How the correspondence got to the Belarusian special services and why it became a matter for ministries is a separate question.

Why Dashkevich was deprived of refugee status

According to Dashkevich, the story began back in 2025. At that time, he was allegedly tried to be coerced into espionage for the benefit of the Belarusian authorities. He himself reported this to the ABW.

— I cannot reveal all the circumstances. There was an attempt to coerce me into cooperation and espionage for Belarus. I immediately reported this to the Polish special service. But then, somehow, I ended up on a list of people who could pose a threat to national security.

After this, the Polish Office for Foreigners began a procedure to verify whether the grounds for refugee status still existed. Dashkevich sent explanations and documents regarding criminal prosecution in Belarus:

— I sent extracts from criminal cases and explained why returning to Belarus is dangerous for me. But in July, I received a decision that my refugee status had been revoked.

Dashkevich intends to appeal this decision with the help of human rights defenders.

Dzianis Dashkevich is an activist from Rogachov, who managed the regional resource "Rogachov Online" for over ten years. His image was ambiguous — for example, Dashkevich defamed human rights activist Leanid Sudalenka. Later, Dashkevich was hired to work in a state House of Culture. The former activist left Belarus in 2022. In 2023, a criminal case was opened against him in Belarus for "insulting" Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

Не понимаю, а в чем проблема тогда устроиться на работу, как тысячи беларусов, не важно куда даже, и от работодателя переподаться на карту побыту хотя бы? Время ещё есть.
