Tsikhanouskaya: Isolating Dictators, We Must Invest in People and Their European Aspirations

The session was also attended by Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Finance Neringa Rinkevičiūtė Lavrinčėnė and Deputy Director-General of the European Commission for Regional and Urban Policy Hugo Sobral, according to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's press service.

The meeting was dedicated to strengthening the security, resilience, and development of countries on the EU's eastern border.

During her speech, the leader noted that Belarusians have been fighting for many years for the same values on which the EU is built.

She emphasized that Lukashenka's regime deliberately isolates Belarusians from Europe, destroys independent institutions, and persecutes everything that strengthens national identity.

Tsikhanouskaya called for maintaining pressure on the regime until real systemic changes occur, supporting Belarusian civil society, independent media, culture, and educational programs. Separately, she proposed deepening cooperation between Belarus's democratic forces and the EESC to prepare for future reforms and the country's European integration.

“Isolating dictators, we must invest in people and their European aspirations. The stronger civil society is, the weaker the dictatorship,” Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya stated.

“Help us promote Belarusian culture, language, and identity through exhibitions, cultural days, educational programs, and exchanges. Let's work together on campaigns in support of political prisoners, independent journalists, workers' rights, human rights, and against disinformation. Let's ensure that Belarus is part of broader European discussions about security, democracy, sovereignty, and the future of Europe. Let's strengthen ties between our civil society organizations through study visits, partnerships, and joint projects,” the politician said.
