OpenAI Closes Sora — a Neural Network for Generating Short Videos
OpenAI officially announced the discontinuation of the Sora video generator. The company is closing both the user application and developer access, and also removing video features from ChatGPT.
The developers confirmed the shutdown on Twitter, promising to later clarify the shutdown timeline and content preservation methods.
The reasons for closing the project are not specified.
But it is likely that the reason was a change in Sam Altman's strategy: if earlier the company sought to launch many different products, now it wants to reorient itself — OpenAI is abandoning experimental services for the masses and focusing on selling ready-made IT tools and services to large corporations to increase their profits.
Despite large-scale investments (including a $1 billion deal with Disney), there were doubts within the company about the real demand for the product.
The Sora team will be disbanded and transferred to other areas, in particular, to projects in the field of robotics.
