Stricter Penalties Sought for Selling Expired Goods

The Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade is considering the possibility of toughening responsibility for stores where expired goods are systematically found. Relevant proposals have been tasked to the territorial bodies of MART.

The department explains the initiative by stating that the sale of expired products remains one of the most common violations in the trade sector and can pose a threat to buyers' health. Among other frequent violations is the absence of a mandatory assortment of goods.

It is not yet known exactly what measures are planned to be introduced. Currently, selling expired goods incurs a fine of up to 100 basic units (4500 rubles), and the suspension of the trading facility's activities is also possible.
