In Warsaw, a translation of a German book about Soviet partisans in Belarus will be presented
On March 21, a presentation of the Belarusian translation of the book "Soviet Partisans in 1941-1944. Myths and Reality" will take place in Warsaw, with the participation of its author Bogdan Musial.
Bogdan Musial is a German-Polish historian specializing in the history of World War II. The book, whose Belarusian translation will be presented, was published in 2009 in Germany in German.
This book is about the history of the Soviet partisan movement during World War II, using Belarus as an example. It reveals important aspects of the history of the Soviet partisan movement in Belarus, including its darker sides:
- its ethnic and social composition;
- forced mobilizations into Soviet partisan ranks;
- women in the Soviet partisan movement;
- internal conflicts and quarrels, drunkenness;
- looting of the civilian population by Soviet partisans;
- repressions against the personnel of the Soviet partisan movement participants, caused by spy paranoia.
The book also explores topics such as major German operations against Soviet partisans in Belarus, the number of losses in the Soviet partisan movement, problems with ammunition supply, and the attitude of the Belarusian population towards it.
