Book "The Stones Had to Fly. The Erased Past of Podlachia" Released
The "Kamunikat" Foundation is releasing a translation of an important book for preserving the memory of Belarusians in the Białystok region by Aneta Prymaka-Onishk — "The Stones Had to Fly. The Erased Past of Podlachia," writes bellit.info.

The experience of national minorities is often excluded from official history. In northeastern Poland, little was also said about what the Belarusian-Orthodox community had to endure: refugee displacement, post-war resettlements, and crimes.
Aneta Prymaka-Onishk breaks this silence. She travels through Podlachian villages, talks to residents of Białystok, Bielsk Podlaski, Hajnówka, Siemiatycze, and Sokółka, reads archival documents, and compares the acquired knowledge with myths about Polish-Belarusian relations. All this to understand what happened eighty years ago and what significance is given to these events today.
"The Stones Had to Fly. The Erased Past of Podlachia" is a testimonial book, important not only for Belarusians of Podlachia but also for Belarusians from mainland Belarus.
"The memory of Belarusians in the Białystok region, namely — our memory, was so forgotten that even Belarusians themselves did not notice their grievances and their tragedy. Besides, why be surprised? Even here in the Białystok region, "Bury" and his victims were only spoken of "in the kitchen" and in hushed voices," says Yaroslav Ivaniuk, the publisher of the Belarusian translation of the book, who was born in Bielsk Podlaski.
Aneta Prymaka-Onishk shows that tragic post-war events occurred not only in the south but also in the north of the Białystok region. The author, as with her first book about refugee displacement, draws on family history — her grandfather also died at the hands of the Polish underground, allegedly as a "communist."
The book was translated from Polish to Belarusian by Natallia Rusetskaya.
Aneta Prymaka-Onishk's book "The Stones Had to Fly. The Erased Past of Podlachia" can already be ordered on the Kamunikat.shop website. Shipping — after July 20.
