In the Ivanovo region of Russia, a citizen of Belarus, who was already serving a sentence in a local penal colony, was additionally convicted.

Initially, he was sentenced to 11.5 years of imprisonment for intentional grievous bodily harm resulting in death by negligence, for robbery, and for illegal drug trafficking.

However, additional questions arose about him in the colony. The Belarusian's body bore a whole set of Nazi tattoos — in the form of a Nazi swastika, the party eagle of the Third Reich with a wreath and swastika, an image resembling Hitler in military uniform, as well as German inscriptions «Wehrmacht» and «Ahnenerbe Deutsches».

Initially, the man was minimally punished for demonstrating Nazi symbols — with an administrative fine of about $10. However, according to the case materials, the Belarusian subsequently took no measures to hide the images — he did not remove them, did not cover them with plaster, did not use long-sleeved clothing — and continued to walk around shirtless in front of other convicts and colony staff.

The accused himself did not admit guilt, stating in court that the tattoos were made in Belarus about 20 years ago and symbolize «disobedience to the administration,» not Nazi propaganda. And that he displayed them not intentionally, but out of everyday necessity.

As a result, he was sentenced to an additional year and a half in a penal colony. In total, the Belarusian still had 5 years left to spend behind bars at that time.
