On June 21, the second season of the American spy series "The Agency," produced by George Clooney, was released on the streaming service Paramount+ (and also on SkyShowtime). Belarus featured in the first season — and in the sequel, the name of our country surfaces again in the very first episode, writes "Zerkalo" (Mirror) with reference to Decider and El Periódico .

"The Agency" is an American remake of the French hit "The Bureau" (Le Bureau des Légendes). The series was created by brothers Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, who, among other things, were screenwriters for several films in the "James Bond" and "Indiana Jones" franchises. The producer of "The Agency" is George Clooney. The main roles are played by Michael Fassbender ("X-Men" franchise, "12 Years a Slave", "300", "Inglourious Basterds", "Alien: Covenant"), Oscar winner Jeffrey Wright ("Westworld", several recent James Bond films, the second and third parts of "The Hunger Games", "The Last of Us", "The Batman"), and cinema legend Richard Gere.
The plot centers on CIA officer Brandon Colby, code-named Martian. After spending several years undercover in Africa, he is forced to return to the London residency. There, a woman from his past resurfaces, and his personal life inevitably intertwines with his work. Simultaneously, the agency is searching for a "mole."
Belarus was mentioned in the series from the very beginning. One of the characters — CIA agent Pyotr Rybak, code-named Coyote (played by Alex Reznik, a Ukrainian actor born in Odesa and living in the USA) — worked in our country under deep cover. The season finale was largely dedicated to a CIA operation to rescue him.
According to El Periódico and Decider, the second season opens precisely at this moment: Coyote has already been extracted from Belarus, and Martian and his colleague interrogate him — specifically, finding out if he used the situation for personal gain.
In the first season, by the way, there was another storyline related to our region: an undercover agent operated in the occupied territories of Ukraine, assisted by Ukrainian military personnel, who were played by Ukrainian actors — Oleksandr Rudynsky and Serhiy Anopko.
In the new season, several storylines develop in parallel. Martian, as Decider writes, continues to look for a way to save his beloved, risking the failure of the entire mission. Another agent, Daniela, code-named Gremlin, operates in Tehran under the guise of a student and tries to uncover Iran's nuclear program. And the hunt for the "mole" in the London residency continues.
The first season garnered over five million viewers across all platforms in its opening weekend, and Paramount+ announced its continuation back in December 2024. The second season was released in its entirety on June 21, all ten episodes at once, and in the first days after its release, it topped the Paramount+ charts in Germany and Italy. According to Rotten Tomatoes, critics rated it higher than the first: 90% approval versus 66% for the debut season. The audience rating on the same site for the first season was 78%, and the overall series rating on IMDb is 7.4 out of 10.
Belarus has regularly appeared in Western cinema and television in recent years — for example, in the series "The Countdown," "The Morning Show," and the film "Heads of State."
