The German weather service warns of temperatures above 40 degrees, and the railway fears disruptions due to infrastructure overheating, thunderstorms, heavy rains, squally winds, and fires along the tracks.

“To everyone who can avoid traveling in this extreme weather situation, we recommend using the special cancellation rule,” states the Deutsche Bahn announcement.

Long-distance tickets purchased up to and including June 23rd, with travel planned until June 30th, can be returned for free.

For those who still decide to travel, Deutsche Bahn promises to prepare tens of thousands of liters of water at major stations and deploy more service staff.
