In Grodno, at Horkaha Street, 92, a new grocery store named "Kuznechik" is preparing to open. Its design duplicates the popular Polish convenience store chain "Żabka".
Users of the Threads social network drew attention to the unusual object.
Belarusians write that "Kuznechik" has a lot in common with "Żabka".
The facade and signboard of the Grodno store are made in the signature green shades of the Polish brand.
Images of a hot dog and a cup of coffee are placed on the glass with the inscriptions "Hungry?" and "Hot coffee?", repeating the concept of quick snacks offered at "Żabka".
How Belarusians reacted
Some commentators reacted to the news with irony, criticizing the creators for their lack of original ideas and blind copying: "Just don't copy word for word," "If you can't come up with anything of your own..." Some are indignant why it's "Kuznechik" (Grasshopper) and not "Konik" (Pony/Grasshopper).
Others expressed skepticism about the viability of a single store. They reminded that Żabka's strength lies in its huge franchise, established logistics, and thousands of stores throughout the country, which allows it to reduce costs.
Finally, some users did not see a problem with this, noting that the convenience store format is popular worldwide, and the creation of new jobs and the absence of long queues are always a plus for customers.
