The project for creating a Belarusian port in Russia's Primorye region is on hold until the economic situation improves. This was announced by Oleg Kozhemyako, Governor of Russia's Primorsky Krai, in response to journalists' questions, Belta reports.
"Regarding this project: we are keeping it in reserve. If the economic situation improves slightly, we will definitely launch it," said the head of the region. "It's a time of sanctions pressure, we need to wait a little."
Oleg Kozhemyako said that the project will remain relevant for a long time, because deliveries of goods from Southeast Asia to the European part of Russia and Belarus "are necessary and important, and will always be in demand."
"A port is a very serious structure, significant in its costs. I think everything is still ahead. We are keeping this project in reserve; for now, we won't implement it without partners from Belarus," he said.
During previous visits of the head of Primorsky Krai to Minsk, intentions were announced to create a joint port there as an important point on the transit route to China, which is of particular interest in light of the development of the Northern Sea Route.
After losing its usual Baltic routes, Minsk actively sought new logistical channels in Russia, including in the Leningrad region, Murmansk, and the Far East. But the idea of its own, Belarusian port, for now, seems hopeless.
