Palantir CEO: In the AI era, only two groups of people will succeed

Palantir CEO Alex Karp believes that in the era of artificial intelligence, people in blue-collar professions and neurodivergent specialists — those whose thinking differs from generally accepted norms — will have the greatest chances for a successful career. The billionaire shared this in an interview with the TBPN podcast, writes devby.io.

"Essentially, there are two ways to understand that you have a future. The first is to get vocational training. The second is to be neurodivergent," Karp stated.

In his opinion, representatives of blue-collar professions, including electricians and plumbers, are better protected from automation. Demand for them is also growing due to the large-scale construction of data centers for AI.

The second category is particularly close to Karp: he has repeatedly spoken about his own dyslexia. Neurodivergence can also include autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. However, the head of Palantir considers the advantage not so much a specific diagnosis, but rather the ability to think outside the box, take risks, and find unusual solutions.

According to him, successful specialists of the future will have to "be more like artists, look at things from a different angle, and be able to create something unique."

Palantir is already betting on such employees. The company has a special Neurodivergent Fellowship program to attract neurodivergent specialists. According to Gartner's forecast, by 2027, 20% of sales departments in Fortune 500 companies will purposefully hire such employees to increase business efficiency.

Karp is also skeptical of traditional higher education. Despite his own three degrees, including a doctorate in philosophy, he previously warned that AI would destroy many jobs in humanitarian professions.

Palantir even launched the Meritocracy Fellowship program for high school graduates who decided not to attend university. In the fall of 2026, participants were offered a scholarship of $5400 per month, and the best ones had the opportunity to get a permanent job. The first cohort included 22 people from over 500 applicants.

Not all heads of AI companies share Karp's position. Microsoft's Chief Scientific Officer, Jamie Teevan, believes that a liberal arts education helps develop critical thinking and adaptability. Anthropic co-founder Daniela Amodei is also confident that human qualities, including empathy, communication skills, and curiosity, will become even more important in the age of AI.
