EU Prepares 'Most Extensive' Sanctions Package Against Russia for Autumn
In the coming months, the European Union plans to introduce a new package of sanctions against Russia. According to the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, it could become the most extensive since the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, as reported by Die Welt.

Kallas stated that she plans to present the most comprehensive sanctions list of the entire war in autumn. According to her, EU sanctions have already cost the Russian war machine more than 1 trillion euros, or about 1.16 trillion dollars.
If the new restrictions are adopted, the number of sanctioned Russian individuals, companies, and organizations could immediately increase by approximately one third.
Kallas emphasized that sanctions pressure must continue to intensify until Russia stops the war. However, she did not disclose specific details of the upcoming package or name exact dates for its adoption.
Previously, on July 23, EU countries agreed on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia. It affected the financial and energy sectors, the Russian military-industrial complex, and also included strengthened export controls. In particular, EU countries extended the current oil price cap on Russian oil for another 12 months.
Sanctions pressure on Russia is also being intensified by the United States. In early August, the US Senate approved a bill giving the president the authority to impose tariffs against major buyers of Russian oil and natural gas, including China and India. The document must now be considered by the US House of Representatives.
