EU agreed on 21st package of sanctions against Russia

The European Union has agreed on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia, announced the Irish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which holds the presidency of the EU Council.

“This package is further aimed against Russia’s revenue sources, hinders the activities of its shadow fleet, and disrupts its supply chains,” wrote Helen McEntee, the head of the department, on the social network X.

Earlier, Politico reported that Dublin proposed "breaking the deadlock" in negotiations, allowing European companies to transport Russian LNG (liquefied natural gas) to third countries until January 2029, but new contracts should be prohibited.

Disagreements within the EU during the discussion of new sanctions arose due to Greece: Athens feared that a ban on European companies supplying Russian LNG to third countries would lead to significant losses.
