The incident occurred around 11:55 AM. As a result, four servicemen were injured. They were taken to a medical facility where they are receiving assistance. The severity of their injuries is still being determined. Additionally, at the time of the report, contact had been lost with several servicemen who were on the training ground territory.

Ukrainian law enforcement officers have launched an investigation and are questioning the command and servicemen of the respective unit. It is currently impossible to inspect the explosion site and conduct primary investigative actions, as the detonation continues and the area remains dangerous. The investigation must determine what exactly caused the incident.

A criminal case has been opened under the article on violation of rules for handling weapons, ammunition, and explosives, if it led to the injury of several people.

Previously, the Special Operations Forces of Ukraine also confirmed that the explosions occurred on the territory of a training ground of one of the military units in the Khmelnytskyi region. According to them, an explosion first occurred, after which the detonation of ammunition began.

Khmelnytskyi Mayor Oleksandr Symchyshyn reported that several residential and communal buildings were damaged as a result of the explosions. Police cordoned off the area where fragments might have scattered. Residents of nearby areas were advised to remain in shelters.

Initially, local authorities reported only a few explosions and stated that there were no casualties. Eyewitnesses spoke of powerful blast waves, large plumes of smoke, and a fire. After the main explosions, according to local reports, less powerful repeated detonations also occurred.

Reports of damaged windows and frames in residential buildings also appeared on social media. Due to the situation, the routes of some city buses were temporarily changed.

At the same time, there was no air raid alert or reports of a Russian shelling of Khmelnytskyi at that moment. Shortly before the explosions, regional authorities reported a planned disposal of explosive ordnance in Starokostiantyniv, but this city is located more than 40 kilometers from Khmelnytskyi. Authorities are clarifying the circumstances of the incident.
