Leader of "Drozdy" announced that he expects an official apology from the Gomel district newspaper
After a successful concert by this popular Belarusian-speaking band on the official Independence Day in Gomel, Viktoryia Futryna, editor of the "Mayak" newspaper, expressed an opinion that goes against the "party line."
Answering her own question "can traitors be forgiven," she stated: "I would no longer trust someone who once betrayed." She also expressed doubts that "Drozdy" would have the courage "to stand in defense of the Motherland," noted "Flagshok."
The band's leader Vital Karpanau, after another concert held on July 11 in Maladzyechna, published a video with the song "Parents' Home" and posted on his social media pages a post with a mild reaction, aiming to demonstrate a constructive approach:
“I was sent a video where one of the state media outlets once again called the band "Drozdy" traitors… Meanwhile, 2700 spectators came to the concert of these "traitors" today! Colleagues, when will you stop living in a parallel reality? While we await an official apology from this media outlet, see how ordinary Belarusians love these guys!”
In the comments, the band received massive support. For example, one user left the following review: "The band "Drozdy" is the best band in Belarus, bringing to the masses love for our Belarusian language and love for our Motherland, blue-eyed Belarus. I was at the concert yesterday - it was simply unforgettable. And those who write nasty things about them are themselves traitors and liars. Good luck to the guys and thank you for your love for our Motherland, for the people."
As of the morning of July 13, the editor of the Gomel district newspaper had not deleted or edited her "column" on the "Mayak" website.
