Former political prisoner told about the difficult psychological state of one of her friends

Former political prisoner Yana Pinchuk, released this September 15, spoke about the difficult psychological state of political prisoner Maryna Leanovich, writes "Viasna".

"Maryna and I were together until my pardon. She has a very unstable psychological state, and she was in a safe room because she was plagued by suicidal thoughts," Yana Pinchuk wrote on social media.

Maryna Leanovich is 28 years old. She is from Minsk. After school, she studied metrology at BSUIR. Immediately after graduation, the girl went to work at EPAM, where she was a frontend developer (a person who develops the part of the program that the user sees).

Maryna also engaged in creative activities. For example, she wrote articles for Belarusian Wikipedia, created illustrations, translated into Belarusian, and also wrote poetry. The girl maintained all her social media in Belarusian, but under pseudonyms.

After the start of the war, Maryna went to live in Georgia and settled in Tbilisi. The girl is fond of nature and photographed and identified species of plants or insects she found during her travels.

Maryna's detention was reported on Twitter in October 2023. It is unknown why the girl returned to Belarus. On January 14, 2025, she was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment.
