Moscow Airports Closed Due to Drone Attacks. Minsk Flight Schedule Also Changed
In the afternoon of October 23, temporary restrictions on aircraft departures and arrivals were introduced at four Moscow airports — Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky — due to a drone attack. This was reported by the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency.

Around 3 PM, reports emerged about the complete closure of Moscow's airspace. At Sheremetyevo Airport, an air raid alarm was declared, and evacuation began.
Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg received 25 flights that were supposed to land in Moscow. It was also reported that a flight from Beijing was redirected to Minsk.
Landing problems also arose for an Emirates Airbus A380 flight, which was flying from Dubai to Moscow. The world's largest passenger aircraft circled over the Penza region for some time, awaiting an opportunity to land. According to Russian media reports, only a few airports in Russia can accommodate this type of aircraft.
One Belavia aircraft also circled over Moscow for some time, after which it returned to Minsk.
Closer to 5 PM, Moscow airports began accepting flights again. However, the restrictions had already affected the flight schedule from Minsk National Airport.
The evening flight of the Russian airline "Pobeda" to Vnukovo, scheduled for 9:00 PM, was cancelled. Other flights to Moscow were rescheduled for a later time. For example, Aeroflot's departure to Sheremetyevo was scheduled for 6:50 PM instead of 5:20 PM, and a Belavia flight to the same airport was delayed from 7:55 PM to 8:55 PM.
Daytime flights of Belavia to Vnukovo and Aeroflot to Sheremetyevo, whose passengers had already been checked in for boarding, were also delayed.
The schedule is also changing for other destinations whose routes pass over Russian territory. For example, flights to Turkish Antalya are delayed by five to six hours.
Belavia's CEO, Igor Cherginets, previously explained that airspace closures and restrictions at foreign airports increase the airline's costs. Due to route changes, flight times and fuel consumption increase, and the number of flights aircraft can operate decreases. Restrictions at Russian airports also necessitate adjustments to international flight schedules.
